  • Maori Health Advisor/Kaihautu (0.6 FTE)

    Rural Canterbury PHO has responsibility for the provision of primary health services to approximately 50,000 enrolled patients in Canterbury, and contracts with Canterbury DHB and a number of other health funders.

    RCPHO is committed to reducing health inequalities for its enrolled population. RCPHO works with health care clinicians, health care providers, Iwi and local communities.

    The Kaihautu / Māori Health Advisor is a unique position offering advice and support to all members of the RCPHO Team, including its General Practice teams.  The role is responsible for providing strategic and cultural support to RCPHO in the key areas of:

    • Māori Health, which includes addressing inequities, reviewing current and new programmes,
    • Input into policies and procedures,
    • Supporting whanau to achieve the 7 Pou, identified in the Māori Health Plan, through appropriate contracting mechanisms / delivery,
    • Treaty of Waitangi and Te Reo
    • Cultural Awareness and Safety – including Cultural Competency education for staff and the practice teams
    • Advice / tautoko to Whanau Ora Navigators
    • Advice / support to RCPHO Practice Support Navigators
    • System Level Measure targets.

    To be successful in the role applicants should have:

    • Relevant tertiary qualifications for example Māori / Management / Clinical tohu
    •  Extensive experience and knowledge of the Health and Disability sector
    • Experience in good business relationships with government agencies is desired
    • Have experience involving planning, report writing and supporting new developments

    Essential Attributes:

    • A solid Health background, preferably in Quality
    • Knowledge of primary health services, general practice capabilities, NGO providers and community support agencies

    • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
    • Able to work independently and tolerate high demand
    • Willingness to support practices in interpretation of the Patient Experience Survey (PES)
    • A good background in policy writing and management

  • Improving Mental Health (IMH) clinician for prison services – 1.0 FTE

    Rural Canterbury PHO provides clinical and management support to primary care. The PHO also delivers primary mental health services to the three Canterbury Prisons.

    We are now seeking a registered mental health professional for the exciting role of Improving Mental Health Clinician to provide clinical, educational and community liaison support to Christchurch Men’s Prison.

     The successful applicants will provide psychological assessment and brief intervention for prisoners who have a mental health need or who are identified as being vulnerable within the prison environment. Strong clinical acumen and competency with a therapeutic modality (e.g. CBT/ACT) essential.

    The successful candidate will be based at Christchurch Men’s Prison and be supported by the Prison Health Centre staff and current IMH clinical team.

    The position is a fixed term contract with flexible employment conditions.

    Clinicians who hold registration under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance (HPCA) Act or have a recognised social work qualification in addition to registration will be considered for the position.
